Competition Terms and Conditions

The Artists' Bill of Rights logo is only awarded to photography competitions with rules that treat artists' rights and moral rights fairly and with respect.

Amateur and Youth

Terms and Conditions

Please read the following before submitting your entry on the website. All entrants who upload their images are deemed to have read and accepted these rule and agree to be bound by them.

General

Entries for Falklands Exposed competition are invited for one or more of the following categories:

  • Wildlife
  • Landscapes
  • Heritage
  • Island Life
  • Active/Outdoors
  • A Face from the Place

Entrants into the amateur and youth categories can enter into the professional category, however a professional photographer (deemed as someone who earns their living from photography or significantly subsidises their overall income) cannot enter into the amateur or youth categories.

Amateur:
Entrants are permitted to submit a maximum of three photographs per category (18 photos in total). Entrants may submit any number of photos up to 18, there will not be any penalties for submitting one photograph only. Entrants submitting over 18 images under different entry titles will be disqualified.

Youth:
Entrants in the youth category must be aged under 18 years or younger on 31st March 2010, the competition closing date. Entrants are permitted to submit a maximum of three photographs per category (18 photos in total). Entrants may submit any number of photos up to 18, there will not be any penalties for submitting one photograph only. Entrants submitting over 18 images under different entry titles will be disqualified. Amateur and youth entrants who enter the professional competition, but must not duplicate any of the images entered for the amateur category in the professional and vice versa.

All entries must be submitted online either uploaded via the website www.falklandislands.com/exposed.

Each image must be uploaded via the upload page with all details completed.

Please ensure that images are 300dpi at A4 size.

Uploading will cease at midnight GMT on 31st March 2010.

Please be aware that due to high volumes of web traffic, there may be times where uploading is not possible, but we would request you try again on a subsequent day within the specified competition period. If there is a prolonged issue with uploading please contact the following: info@reefnet.co.uk

Entry Guidelines

Each entry must reflect the category for which it is entered listed as above.

Acceptable formats are:

  • Colour or black & white.
  • Resolution should be sufficient to be printed to high quality (300dpi at A4).

Minor digital adjustments are permitted such as levels, curves, contrast, colour, saturation and sharpening work. However we will only permit images that are a faithful representation of a true moment. Not a creation. Adding or removing subjects from the image submitted is not allowed. Composite and multiple exposures are also not permitted.

Black and white shots may be shot in colour and then de-saturated. A duotone or sepia tone may then be applied.

Rules and Restrictions

All entrants must have completed all detail fields in order to upload to the site.

This competition is free to enter.

Photos that have previously won any photography competition will not be permitted.

Photos must have been taken by the entrant on the Falkland Islands.

The competition is open internationally.

Employees of the competition sponsors and organisers will not be permitted to enter.

Photos must not be older than 24 months on the closing date.

Entries must be fully uploaded at midnight GMT 31st March 2010 otherwise they will not be considered.

FITB reserves the right to remove any images it deems as unsuitable.

FITB and sponsors respect the rights of photographers and does not claim copy right for images submitted.

Entrants will retain full copyright for each entry.

In addition your moral rights are respected. Whenever a submitted image is published by FITB or sponsors, the photographer will be credited. Failure to publish a credit due to error or oversight shall not be deemed a breach of this condition.

A selection of photos will be published on the competition website. Regrettably we are not able to publish all submissions.

Entries are made at the photographers own risk.

Entrants are fully responsible for ensuring that all the photographs they submit do infringe the rights of others, and that they will be responsible for meeting the costs of any claims brought against FITB by third parties in respect of images submitted.

By entering this competition, entrants agree that any image submitted may be used by FITB and sponsors solely for marketing and promotional purposes of this contest or future contests and no other purposes. Promotional purposes include judging the competition, display on the competition website and sponsor websites, promotion to publications in connection with the competition and related exhibitions.

Entrants grant FITB and sponsors, a non-exclusive, irrevocable licence in each entry throughout the world in all media for the uses described above for no more than five years following the announcement of the winners.

Should any images be needed for purposes beyond that of promotion and marketing of the competition, entrants will be contacted and given the opportunity to decline or discuss usage terms with parties concerned. Photos that have been manipulated digitally outside of the specified entry guideline will be disqualified. Judges details will be published along with the list of winners on www.falklandislands.com/exposed.

Prizes & Awards

Judging will take place in the first two weeks of April 2010.

Winners will be emailed or contacted by the end of April 2010.

Amateur Prizes

There will be ‘best in category’ winning shot and an overall winning shot from the amateur group which will be in addition to the ‘best in category’ selection.

Overall winner:

  • Nikon D3000 Digital SLR Camera with a 18 – 55mm lens
  • Footprint’s guide to Travel Photography by Steve Davey.
  • One year’s subscription to Outdoor Photography Magazine.

‘Best in category’ will win:

  • Footprint’s guide to Travel Photography by Steve Davey.
  • One year’s subscription to Outdoor Photography Magazine.

Youth Prizes

There will be a winner and a runner up.

Winner:

  • Nikon Coolpix S570 Digital Camera sponsored by Falkland Islands Government

  • One year’s subscription to Outdoor Photography Magazine.

Runner up:

  • Footprint’s guide to Travel Photography by Steve Davey.

No alternative prizes are available.

Timing

Closing date: midnight GMT 31st March 2010.

Entries will be retained and may be displayed in relation to the competition on the FITB website for no more than five years.

Notes

Wildlife should be shot ideally in their natural surroundings, whilst captive wildlife shots will be considered, they will not regarded as highly as those shot in the wild.

Originality is something that the judges will be looking for as well as technical merit.

Judges are looking for shots that really embody the Falklands, so drastic colour alterations or things that look artificially altered will not be chosen as a winner.

Professional

Terms and Conditions

Each submission must consist of one photo from each category totalling six shots in all. There should be a single submission from each entrant. Multiple submissions will result in disqualification. The submission will be considered a portfolio.

All portfolios must be submitted online, uploaded via the microsite www.falklandislands.com/exposed.

Each image should be loaded up with all the categories completed.

Please ensure that images are 300dpi at A4 size.

This competition is free to enter.
