Fully equipped, centrally heated and double glazed house for 8. Elephant Beach Farm extends to the rugged north coast of East Falkland and boasts a large tussock restoration programme aimed at providing wildlife habitat and controlling coastal land erosion. 4WD tours are available to this area, which also includes a gentoo penguin colony overlooking a spectacular tidal lagoon, a variety of other bird life and regular sightings of dolphins and sealions along the shores.
Fully equipped house for 9. Ideally located to explore many areas of East Falkland from the plains of Lafonia to the highest mountain Usborne. Darwin, with both gaucho and military history, is a short walk away; further afield are battlefields, military cemeteries and wildlife. Perfect stop-over en route to the West by ferry.
These locations can only be reached off-road. En route to Bull Point are four “outside” houses available for rent – basic but comfortable self catering with peat stove and diesel generator which need to be started by hand; take your own bedding and towels. A taste of “old style” Falkland life.
Four houses available: George House for 10, Creek House for 10, Beach House for 8 and Kiwi Cottage for 5. Offers insight into life on a large farm. Gateway location for Bull Point, the most southerly point of East Falkland with a diversity of wildlife; other attractions include Tweeds Valley and Fanny Cove park with interesting rock formations.
Comfortable family home with a variety of opportunities on offer. This is a great area for walking and for the fishing enthusiast – good trout fishing can be arranged on the San Carlos River. Fanning Head, at the western end of the farm, affords fantastic views over to West Falkland with nearby populations of rockhopper, gentoo and Magellanic penguins amongst other flora and fauna. Horse riding, quad-biking and 4WD excursions are available.
Fully equipped, centrally heated house for 6. Great for walking, fishing and relaxing in a get-away-from-it-all location; the farm cottage offers the same opportunites to visitors as a stay at Racepoint Farm Big House including meals in the family home if you wish.
Two houses available: 2 bed-roomed house for 6, 3 bed-roomed house for 5. Relaxed country comfort, the cottages at Kingsford Valley Farm sit near picturesque San Carlos Water. San Carlos is the site of the 1982 British Cemetery and a small, well-kept museum. Ajax Bay, used as a field hospital during the 1982 conflict. Penguins colonies are also within easy travelling distance.
Fully equipped house for 15. Ideally located to explore the area of Lafonia or simply to “get away from it all”. Enjoy fishing and walking in this pleasantly flat area of the Islands; explore further afield to discover remote penguin colonies, sheltered bays, inlets and beaches. Goose Green, Darwin, North Arm and Newhaven ferry terminal are all within an hours drive.
Fully equipped house for 8. Cosy and comfortable with stunning views over the beautiful Crooked Inlet where whales can often be seen. Ideally located for walks in the surrounding hills including Mount Adam, the highest mountain on the West, or simply relaxing, enjoying the views, wildlife and experiencing traditional farm life. Tours available to various locations on the West with opportunities to observe the wildlife or go fishing.
Fully equipped house for 6. Fox Bay is the largest settlement on the West and home to “Warrah Design”, previously the wool mill, where items of clothing and other textiles can be purchased with Falkland Islands or individually designed logos. A memorial was erected here in 2007 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Falkland Islands conflict.
Little Chartres sits on the bank of the River Chartres and is idealy situated for the tourer in the centre of West Falkland. Immediate access to road network and just one hour from ferry terminal at Port Howard. Spend time sight-seeing, taking nature walks (try our own wildlife reserve for rare plants), chilling out and taking in the open and breath taking scenery, while away some time fishing for trout. (Fly and spinning equipment available.) We have a children's playground, miniature horses and ducks. Camping possible.
Fully equipped cabin for 5. A shepherd’s shanty at the original site of Chartres settlement (especially suited for the adventurous!), camping available for larger groups. Little Chartres is perfectly situated to explore West Falkland with a large variety of tours and experiences on offer at the farmhouse. Top Dip Shanty does not have electricity or running water (torches/candles provided, water daily from farmhouse). It has a chemical toilet, gas fire, gas hobs, and a peat stove (peat/wood provided). Bedding, towels and household equipment provided along with a welcome pack of bread, cakes and biscuits.
Fully equipped house for 5 with fresh produce, general stores and diesel available. Port Edgar is ideally situated for varied walking opportunities along the shores or clifftops affording excellent views across Falkland Sound. Penguin colonies are nearby and whales are often sighted. Go fishing or experience farm life including shearing demonstrations during the summer months.
Three houses available: Cookhouse, Bunkhouse and Head Shepherd’s House. Cosy and comfortable with stunning views at affordable prices. Port Howard is the “Gateway to the West”, situated close to the ferry terminal and at the foot of Mount Maria, the third highest mountain on West Falkland. A pitch and putt course and a nine hole, par three golf course (owned and maintained by a local landowner) are available in the settlement.
Well furnished bedrooms, TV lounge and mature gardens make this an excellent location to experience the warmth and hospitality of traditional “camp” life. The Lodge has many original features including wood panelling, the old telephone system and farming artefacts on display. Fishing for sea trout and local mullet can be arranged or play pitch and putt in the grounds. A nine hole, par 3 course is owned and maintained by a landholder in the settlement. Tours are available to penguin rookeries and around the farm.
Fully equipped cottage for 5. The comfortable cottage in the heart of the settlement provides a perfect base for exploring the superb coastline of the south west. The unique rock formations known as Indian Village are within walking distance; excellent hiking opportunities afford fantastic views of the jagged shoreline and powerful South Atlantic from nearby Calm Head. Gentoo, magellanic and rockhopper penguins breed along the clifftops and shores.
Fully equipped house for 5. Offers an insight into farm life with the chance to participate in farm work at some times of the year. Horse riding, trout and mullet fishing opportunities are available. Tours can be arranged to see the miniature ponies at Main Point, penguins at Port North and other places of interest.
Bleaker Island is roughly a 30 minute flight from Stanley in the south-east of the archipelago. Cobb’s Cottage has recently been constructed; it is centrally heated and equipped to a high standard to accommodate 5 people. Meal packs can be provided on request. Bleaker Island is home to many colonies of penguins and other birds and sea lions can usually be seen within easy walking distance of the settlement. Wide sandy bays and beautiful sheltered coves characterise this lowland Island.
Carcass Island is around an hour’s flying time from Stanley in the north west of the archipelago. The farm house has recently been upgraded, offering a comfortable, friendly atmosphere and a home from home experience. Magellanic and gentoo penguins breed here and numerous other birds can be seen as the island is rat and cat free. Marine mammals are also plentiful with elephant seals on the north-west point. Carcass Island is small enough to be explored on foot with sandy beaches and rugged clifftops; alternatively drop-offs/pick-ups can be arranged or use of the Land Rover – all free-of-charge. Boat trips can be organised to nearby West Point Island where black-browed albatross breed. Cheaper rates in October and March.
Pebble Island boasts a comfortable lodge and is around an hour’s flying time from Stanley in the north west of the archipelago. The island is home to 42 species of birds including 4 types of penguin. Scenically attractive, grassy plains with ponds and wetlands in the east contrast with the moorland and mountains of the western side. Large expanses of sandy beaches include locations where the semi-precious Falkland pebbles can be found. Rich in history from the 1982 conflict with memorials and cairns around the island. Detailed tours are provided; walking opportunities abound and a drop-off service is easily arranged.
Saunders Island is around an hour’s flying time from Stanley, three miles off the north west coast of West Falkland. Two houses each fully equipped; Main House for 10, and Stone Cottage for 6. Both are situated in the main settlement of the Island. The ruins of Port Egmont, the first British settlement in 1765, are a 30 minute walk away. Fishing and 4WD excursions to other parts of the island to enjoy the wildlife can be arranged.
Saunders Island is around an hour’s flying time from Stanley, three miles off the north west coast of West Falkland. The Neck offers basic, centrally heated accommodation in a three roomed fully equipped cabin for 8, recently upgraded to provide 24 hour power. The Neck is situated 10 miles from the Island’s airstrip at the north western end of the Island. Superb wildlife is literally on the doorstep, including penguins, seal and black-browed albatross. This isolated location offers peace, solitude, amazing views and great walking opportunities.
Saunders Island is around an hour’s flying time from Stanley, three miles off the north west coast of West Falkland. The Rookery is the newest accommodation on Saunders Island, fully equipped for 4 with central heating and 24 hour power. Set in a remote position in the north of the island, home also to colonies of black-browed albatross and rockhopper penguins. Closer to the settlement than The Neck, The Rookery still provides a feeling of isolation with fantastic hiking.
Sea Lion Island is about 40 minutes flying time from Stanley in the south east of the archipelago. The Lodge is the only accommodation on the Island, offering guests privacy and security in comfortable surroundings. Outside the Lodge is an abundance of wildlife just minutes from the door. As well as the inevitable sea lions, this is home to three species of breeding penguins and the largest breeding colony of Southern Elephant Seals. Killer whales prowl the shores and over forty species of birds visit the island. The island is compact in size, so easy to explore on foot. Cheaper rates in September, October and March. Weddell Island, situated to the West of West Falkland, is just over an hour's flight from Stanley. It is the largest offshore island and home to an impressive range of flora and fauna much of which is just walking distance from the settlement. Gentoo and Magellanic penguins abound along with a wide variety of other birdlife plus the added attraction of Patagonian foxes. Marine mammals frequent the coastal waters and rare plants and beautiful wild flowers exist in profusion. Mountain View Cottage is a large well equipped 2-storey Settlement house that sleeps 8 as standard (2 doubles, 2 twins and 2 singles). Mountain View Cottage offers comfortable spacious modern living with the added bonuses of peace, quiet and wonderful views in all directions. This is a perfect base from which to explore this vast, captivating, majestic Island which will afford the more adventurous walker a true wilderness experience.
