Fox Bay and Fox Bay West

The road to Fox Bay from Port Howard makes for an interesting day trip accommodating a variety of interests. Stopping points along the way include plane wrecks from the 1982 Conflict, a lay-by of exposed Devonian age rock containing trace fossils, and the scenic Hawk's Nest Ponds where water fowl can be observed.

Named after the Falkland fox, an animal locally called the warrah and now extinct, Fox Bay is the largest settlement on the West. It is split into two areas on either side of the bay; the East is home to Warrah Design, previously the wool mill, where items of clothing and other textiles can be purchased with Falkland Islands or individually designed logos. A memorial was erected here in 2007 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Falkland Islands conflict.
