Port Howard is a sheep farming settlement from which the 200,000-acre farm is operated. In a scenically attractive location, the Lodge provides a comfortable base for exploration; it has many original features including wood panelling, the old telephone system and farming artefacts on display. Alongside is a small museum with relics of the 1982 Conflict.
Visitors can watch various aspects of farm life, take a guided tour or explore the settlement at their own pace. Hiking opportunities are excellent with great views from the top of Mount Maria, the Falklands third highest peak. Pitch and putt can be played in the grounds of the Lodge and a nine hole, par three course overlooking the settlement and harbour, is owned and maintained by a local landowner.
Port Howard is one of the best places to stay for sea trout fishing on the Warrah and Chartres rivers, for which guiding and transport can be provided. Full board accommodation is offered at the Lodge and self catering cottages are also available in the settlement.
