Library & Reading
For those with a real interest in the depths of Falklands history, the Islands only library is situated upstairs in the Leisure Centre end
of the Community School building in Stanley. Various Falkland Island texts can be
found in the reference section which also stocks current and back copies
of the Penguin News. International newspapers and magazines are available and there is, of course, a lending library for residents. Older books are sometimes sold very cheaply.
Library opening hours are 8.45 - 12.00 & 1.30 - 5.45 weekdays and 10.00 - 12.00 & 2.00 - 5.00 Saturdays.
Visitors looking to update their book collection can buy new books in the "FIC West Store" or second-hand from the "Charity Shop" and at the "Seamen's Mission" which welcomes monetary donations in return for books or a book-swap. Specialist Falkland Island texts are sold in the "Pink Shop", the "Jetty Visitor Centre" and the "FIC Capstan Gift Shop". Penguin-related books can be found in the "Harbour View Gift Shop". All these outlets are located in Stanley and can be found on the Stanley map.
Many accommodation establishments have books for visitors to read whilst in residence, particularly to help with the identification of wildlife. Second-hand books are also available at "The Galley Cafe", Goose Green.
