Philatelic Bureau
Falkland Island stamps and coins are great collectors’ items, renowned
around the World. The first stamp was issued in 1878, prior to which
letters were simply franked to show that postage had been paid.
Pictorial stamps followed in 1929. Stamps depict many aspects of
Falkland Island life past and present, special events, anniversaries and
wildlife.The Philatelic Bureau was established in 1978. Situated next door to the Post Office on Ross Road, it handles stamps for the Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands and the British Antarctic Territory as well as for the Falkland Islands.
