Tourism Accommodation Grant Scheme Form
This grant scheme aims to improve the quality and quantity of available accommodation in the Falklands to further facilitate the growth of the tourist industry. Tourism is an increasingly important industry in the Falkland Islands and provides a valuable ancillary income to many businesses, particularly farms.
Diversification of the rural and urban economy is a key requirement for the sustainability of the Falklands, therefore this scheme aims to assist both Stanley and Camp based businesses to develop new, or improved, sources of income through the provision of tourist accommodation.
All business entities are eligible including sole traders, partnerships and incorporated companies. Any proposal, which relates to the development of new or existing tourism accommodation, is eligible.
In order for an application for a grant to be considered, the following criteria must also be met:
- The proposal meets the aim of improving the standard and capacity of tourism accommodation in the Falkland Islands.
- The business must have participated, or is scheduled to participate, in the Tourism Accommodation Accreditation Scheme.
- The tourist accommodation is listed on the Falkland Islands Tourist Board (FITB) website (www.falklandislands.com).
- The tourist accommodation must be open throughout peak tourism periods (October-March).
Multiple applications are permitted, however businesses are limited to a maximum of £10,000 grant funding per annum.
Please note that the application must be made before any costs are incurred, as retrospective applications will not be considered.
Funding covering up to 50% of the total project costs is available, with a maximum award of £10,000 per application.
Eligible costs include building materials, health and safety measures and labour. It also includes fixtures, fittings and accessories, such as furniture, carpets, mattresses and bedding. A maximum labour rate of £10 an hour is applicable.
The scheme applies to buildings, or separated parts thereof, which are used exclusively by paying guests. Applications for improvements to private domestic accommodation, or buildings that include short-term accommodation for farm contractors or labourers, will not be considered.
Please complete the online form to apply. A sub-committee of FITB staff and directors meets every two months to consider proposals. An annual budget of £50,000 has been allocated to this fund.
