Falklands Volunteer Service Memorial

About

Situated alongside Boxer Bridge on the outskirts of Stanley, the memorial commemorates the lives of eight “Volunteers” who lost their lives while on active service. They drowned when their boat overturned. During World War One, the Falklands Islands were placed on a war footing and the “Falkland Islands Volunteers”, the forerunner of today’s “Falkland Islands Defence Force”, were mobilised for service in military outposts positioned around Stanley.
