Falkland hospitality

'Great hospitality' always features highly as a visitor comment. Wherever you choose to stay in the Falkland Islands you can be sure of a very warm welcome from your hosts. Plenty of choice

Accommodation choices range from well-appointed hotels in Stanley to cosy cottages in the countryside. Guest houses and farmhouses offer visitors the opportunity to meet local families and get a real feel for Island life. Fresh home-cooked food is usually the order of the day and “honesty bars” in many locations allow you to relax and chat with others, to discuss the best wildlife spot of the day, the biggest fish caught and “the one that got away” or simply enjoy the privacy of reading a book in a quiet corner.

Remote settlements

The more adventurous traveller may choose a cottage in an isolated location. These are fantastic places to really get away from it all and live life as you wish. But even countryside lodges and guest houses have the off-the-beaten-track feeling. Clear night skies are glorious, the sounds of the wildlife lull you gently to sleep.

Cosmopolitan Stanley

The tiny capital Stanley packs a punch despite its small size, boasting a wide variety of accommodation options with something to suit all tastes and budgets. Bed and breakfast arrangements offer good value for money but full-board is also available at some establishments. Many places offer delicious “smoko”, a chance to sample special Falkland flavours such as diddle-dee jam, cakes with teaberries or a little-known recipe handed down from one generation to the next.
