In Shopping

Stanley is a great place to buy gifts and souvenirs. Many visitors want to leave with a penguin, and there are certainly plenty to choose from, but there is a whole host of other lovely mementos and perfect presents.

Why not browse to make sure you see the best of everything? A trip around the shops on foot is easy to plan and can include a snack stop en route if your feet are weary. Be sure to visit the Capstan Gift Shop, Falkland Collectibles, Harbour View Gift Shop, Historic Dockyard Museum Shop, Jetty Visitor Centre, Philatelic Bureau, Pink Shop, POD Gift Shop and Studio 52.

Art and Photography

Local artists get plenty of inspiration from the Falklands’ scenery and wildlife. Look for originals, prints, photography and photo-products including photo blocks, placemats and coasters sold in the main gift shops. Art materials can be found in the Pink Shop.

Books

There are many published books about the Falklands, particularly related to the wildlife and the 1982 war. Some are conservation themed and some written for children. The Capstan Gift Shop, Harbour View Gift Shop, Historic Dockyard Museum, Jetty Visitor Centre and Pink Shop stock a range of Falklands’ literature.

Clothing

Falklands branded clothing with “Tourist Board” and “Falklands Conservation” logos, both featuring penguins, are popular choices available from the Jetty Visitor Centre and Historic Dockyard Museum. Many other shops also stock items of clothing in all sizes including tee-shirts, fleeces, hats, scarfs and gloves, some locally made from the sumptuously soft Falklands’ wool.

Crafts

Many Islanders love crafting and sell their products through the local stores. Wool-crafts are particularly popular; you can also buy Falklands’ wool as yarn and tops to take home to craft yourself. Jewellery-making is a growing interest including items with the unique semi-precious Falklands’ pebbles. White Grass Ceramics is a new business, based in San Carlos but with gifts on sale in Stanley from tiny ceramic hearts to mugs and plates.

Food and Drink

Diddle-dee jam is the iconic Falklands product and easy to take home in a small jar from many of Stanley’s gift shops. Try the locally brewed beer from Falklands Beerworks or you can find it on draft at the Malvina House Hotel and Victory Bar.  Bottles can be purchased from The Waterfront. Engraved glasses and branded beermats are available from Studio 52.

Penguins

Penguins take many different guises. Every shop has a penguin souvenir in one form or another from chocolate penguins to cuddly toys, tea towels to tee-shirts. If penguins appeal to you then take a tour of the gift shops to find your favourite. Or buy something from each!

Philatelic and other collectibles

The Falklands, South Georgia and British Antarctic Territory are renowned in the stamp-collecting world so what better place to buy these souvenirs? Falklands Collectibles and the Philatelic Bureau can give expert advice, the former also offering a huge range of other stamps, coins and collectibles from times past as well as present.

Smaller souvenirs

There is so much to buy, the suggestions above are far from exhaustive. Fridge magnets, cards, postcards, soaps, lip-balms, craft-kits, bookmarks, the list is endless. For something that little bit different, take home Falklands’ music on a CD from the POD Giftshop.

There is absolutely no excuse not to “shop until you drop”!
