Located at the edge of Port Howard settlement is a memorial for SAS Captain Gavin John Hamilton, adjacent to the spot on which he was killed in the 1982 war. The inscribe plaque was mounted on a rock in 2009 by three soldiers from 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. Between 19th April and 10th June 1982, Captain Hamilton and his SAS troop were responsible for some of the most successful operations of the way. His grave is situated in Port Howard Cemetery.
